I recently wrapped up a delightful project with my co-op, Brooklyn Art Library, called "Mail Me Something." It's been such a refreshing creative exercise, and I'm excited to share my experience with you all.

The concept is beautifully simple: create a series of 4" x 6" paintings and mail them off, one by one. I've been working with acrylic and graphite on paper, producing these miniature artworks that are essentially postcards from my artistic journey.

What I love about this project is how it's pushed me to work in a concentrated format. Some of these pieces started as paint sketches for larger works - a common practice in my studio. But as I dove deeper into the project, I found myself drawn to the idea of these small paintings coming together to form something greater. It's got me thinking about future series where multiple small works could create a larger, cohesive piece.

The mailing aspect adds such a unique dimension to the project. I've sent off the first three paintings today, with three more to follow each day for the next four days. It's a perfect way to use up my surplus of Christmas stamps (note to self: be more realistic with next year's card list!). There's something poetic about these little pieces of art traveling through the postal system, each on its own adventure.

What's particularly intriguing is how these paintings, created as a set, will be exhibited separately. It's like sending fragments of a larger artistic vision out into the world, each piece telling part of a story.

This project has been a wonderful reminder of the joy in creating for creation's sake. Some of these sketches won't evolve into larger works, and that's okay. The process itself has been valuable, pushing me to explore ideas quickly and intuitively.

As I look at all the postcard paintings together before they embark on their separate journeys, I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement. Each tiny canvas represents a moment of creativity, soon to find a new home and, hopefully, bring a spark of joy to someone's day.

Here's to small artworks making big impressions!
